Rooster Teeth cuts ties with anime voice actor Vic Mignogna amid harassment reports

Rooster Teeth has ended its professional relationship with Vic Mignogna, whose voice work on anime like Fullmetal Alchemist and the recent Dragon Ball Super: Broly has won him widespread popularity. The production company announced that it has removed Mignogna from the cast of RWBY, Rooster Teeth’s popular, anime-style web show, as sexual harassment claims against the actor continue to grow.

“Effective today, Vic Mignogna is no longer a part of the cast of RWBY and Rooster Teeth is ending all associations with Mignogna,” Rooster Teeth shared in a blog post. “This will not affect the creative content of RWBY.
A prolific anime industry veteran, Mignogna rose to fame with roles like Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist. He was a main cast member on RWBY for four seasons, the latest of which wrapped on Jan. 26. Neither Rooster Teeth nor Mignogna has commented further on if mounting misconduct allegations on social media prompted this, but it’s Mignogna’s highest-profile firing since fans began making public allegations of misconduct last month.
As Polygon previously reported, the premiere of Dragon Ball Super: Broly coincided with anime fans sharing stories about purported inappropriate interactions with the voice actor at conventions over the years. These include uncomfortable, non-consensual touches with fans in photos, as well as prejudiced comments about gay content, namely fan art. Outlets like Anime News Network have also shared stories from many con-goers in a lengthy, detailed report on Mignogna’s alleged behavior.
The actor provided his own long response in mid-January too many of the claims made against him.
“Any allegations of sexual harassment, sexual assault, or most disturbingly, pedophilia are COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY FALSE,” he tweeted.
But since then, Mignogna has gone silent on social media — and canceled major appearances. Seattle’s Emerald City Comic Con and Kansas City’s Planet Comicon tweeted last week that the voice actor will no longer attend his scheduled panels in March.
