Search engine company Google will publicly submit information related to India’s Political Advertisement from March 2019 on its platform. It will contain information about the person who is buying the election advertisement and related advertising. Google has taken this step in India to increase transparency in political advertisements before the general elections (Lok Sabha Election 2019) that will be held this year in April-May.
In a statement, Google said, “To bring transparency in online election advertisements, the company will present a ‘Political Advertising Transparency Report’ focused on India and a public online Political Advertising Library, which people will be able to search.”
This report an ad library will be available directly to everyone from March 2019. The company has said, “There will be detailed information about the buyer of the advertisement and how much he is being spent on advertising.” The goal of Google’s initiative is to bring transparency in the “Online Political Advertisement” and enable voters to make information related to elections. “
Google has taken this step at a time when there is huge pressure on bringing transparency over digital advertising on digital platforms (Digital Political Advertisement).
Facebook had said last month that it would make it mandatory to give information and location information to those who give political advertisements.
