Argentina’s legendary Lionel Messi, the dream of winning world cup and the charismatic forward Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup was also got broken. Messi led Argentina to face defeat against France while Uruguay beat Portugal 2-1 in the pre-quarterfinal match played against Portugal, which was played by Ronaldo on Saturday night.
Star forward Edison Kawani scored two goals for Uruguay, while Pepe scored the only goal for the current European champion Portugal. The two teams made a strong start in the match played at the Fishst Stadium, but Uruguay managed to score the first goal due to the duo of Star Forward Kawani and Luis Suarez.
In the seventh minute of the match, Suarez gave a brilliant cross in the box from the right edge on which Kawani made Uruguay ahead 1-0. Portugal have not lost their patience even after being beaten by one goal. Defender Jose Fonte placed headers on the corner to Portugal in the 11th minute but he could not make the ball in the goal. Uruguay got the chance to double their lead in the 22nd minute.
Uruguay got a free kick outside the box on which Suarez tried to score goals. However, he hit the ball over the goalpost. Ronaldo of Portugal got the chance to score a free-kick in the 32nd minute but he could not even put the ball into the goal.
The Portuguese team managed to score a goal in the second half within ten minutes. Portugal got a corner in the 55th minute and Pepe scored the first goal of the match for his team, putting a brilliant header on the cross of defender Raphael Garrero.
Uruguay gave Portugal’s goal in the 62nd minute. On the left end of the box, Kawani scored Uruguay 2-1 ahead by scoring the best goal by the Rodrigo Bentacur. In the 67th minute, Portugal could once again get the chance to equalize with the corner, but Ronaldo could not make the right header.
Three minutes later, Uruguay’s goalkeeper Fernándre Muslera was wrong in catching the ball in the box. Bernardo Silva got the chance to hit the shot and hit the ball over the goalpost. At the last minute of the match, Portugal did not succeed in trying to score a goal of equalizing.
